Why Dollar Store supplements may not be a good idea

Watching my favourite TV doctor, I was shocked to find out he had people who were recommending cheap cosmetics from the dollar store. Now, I know there are bargains to be found at any of these stores. But when it comes to actually recommending lip shines and other cosmetics that could have undesirable side effects, I have to disagree.

Let me tell you why.

I have come across many cases where patients became sick or showed signs of malicious side effects after taking supplements or vitamins bought at a dollar store.

Yes, I know there is a difference between putting a little blush on your cheeks and actually ingesting supplements. But I would not recommend any cheap cream from dollar stores or any discount shops for that matter.

From headaches to all kinds of rashes, I’ve seen many patients with discomforting symptoms after taking supplements or vitamins from dollar stores. The products found in these stores come from countries with little concern for the actual side effects of certain ingredients found in their supplements and vitamins.

That is why it is so cheap. Now, I don’t know about you but I would rather spend more from a reputable brand than save a few cents and risk my health to save a few cents.

There are plenty of reliable brands and you can find them in drug stores at modest prices. I prefer to get my supplements and vitamins from reputable brands that have pharmaceutical grade manufacturing plants.

If you live in the U.S.A, look for the USP (U.S. pharmacopeia) seal of approval. The USP is a reputable organization that test supplements and vitamins to ensure the label clearly identifies what is actually in the bottle and that no harmful ingredients are present.

In Canada, look for the DIN (Canadian Drug Identification Number) for products that have been approved by Health Canada.

Next, you should read the ingredients on the label. Any chemicals in there with really long chemical compounds? Take a look at the expiration date. Make sure you can finish the content before the expiration date.

I also look for brands that have been in business for decades and have a proven track record for providing safe products. Shaklee comes to mind.

So, why risk intoxicating yourself when you can do a little research and find safe supplements and vitamins from reliable brands at affordable prices.

If your health is important to you, make a little effort to find the best products.

Lastly, I would recommend you seek professional help if you intend to take any supplements or vitamins that may produce harmful side effects if you are on medication.
Better be safe than sorry.
