Vitamin and Hair Growth

Shampoos and conditions are not enough.  To make sure that you are giving your crown of glory attention, you have to be aware that nutrition plays a very important role in having terrific, shining hair. Unlike the skin, hair cannot repair itself: but you can achieve new, healthier hair growth.

The first thing to do is examine your diet.  Does it contain fish, wheat germ, yeast, and liver?  It should!   The vitamins and minerals that these foods supply are what your hair needs, along with frequent scalp massage, a good pH balance, protein-enriched shampoo and supplements

Supplements:

Multivitamin-mineral complex ~ 1 daily: Take after any meal. B vitamins are essential for hair growth.

B complex ~ 100 mg (time released) ~ 1 daily:  Take after any meal. Pantothenic acid, folic acid, and PABA help restore gray hair to its natural color.

Vitamin A ~ 10,000 IU ~ 1-2 daily, 5 days per week:  Take AM and PM. Works alongside vitamin B to keep hair shiny. Keep in mind that you need some fatty acids, vitamin B and choline in your body for Vitamin A to survive.

Cysteine ~ 1 g. daily with 3 g. vitamin C: Take between meals with juice. Hair is 10-14 percent cysteine, and this supplement can keep tresses looking lustrous.

Multiple chelated minerals ~ 1 daily: Take with breakfast. Minerals such as silicon, sulfur, iodine, and aron help prevent falling hair.

Sulfur ~ Essential for healthy hair, skin and nails.  Sulfur tones up skin and makes hair more lustrous. The best known natural sources are lean beef, dried beans, fish, eggs and cabbage. If you are getting enough protein in your daily meals, most likely you are getting enough sulfur.  There is no known toxicity from organic sulfur, but ill effects may occur from large amounts of inorganic sulfur.

Iodine (Iodide) ~ Two- thirds of the body’s iodine is in the thyroid gland.  Iodine promotes healthy hair, nails, skin, and teeth. Kelp, vegetables grown in iodine-rich soil, onions and seafood are all natural sources for iodine.  Available in multimineral and high-potency vitamin supplements in doses of 0.15mg.

Inositol ~  Water soluble and another member of the B complex. Daily dietary allowances are not really established but the average healthy adult gets approximately 1 g a day.  Inositol promotes healthy hair and aids in preventing fall out. People who are deficient in inositol experience eczema. Liver, brewer’s yeast, dried lima beans, beef brains and heart, cantaloupe, grapefruit, raisins, wheat germ, unrefined molasses; peanuts and cabbage are all natural resources for inositol.  Combines with choline to form lecithin. 6 soybean-based lecithin capsules contain approximately 244 mg. each of inositol and choline.  Inositol is available in lecithin powders that mix well with liquids.  Most B- complex supplements contain approximately 100 mg. of choline and inositol.  Daily doses most often used are 250 to 500 mg. There are no known toxic effects.

Vitamin F ~ (unsaturated fatty acids-linoleic, linolenic and arachidonic). Fat soluable, made up of unsaturated fatty acids obtained from foods. Unsaturated fat helps burn saturated fat, with intake balanced two to one. Twelve teaspoons of sunflower seeds or eighteen pecan halves can furnish a day’s complete supply. Vitamin F aids in preventing cholesterol deposits in the arteries and also promotes healthy skin and hair. Aids in weight reduction by burning saturated fats. Vegetable oils-wheat germ, linseed, sunflower, safflower, soybean and peanuts, sunflower seeds, walnuts, pecans, almonds and avocados are the best natural sources of vitamin F. For best absorption, take vitamin E with it at mealtimes. If you are a heavy carbohydrate consumer, you need more vitamin F. There are no know toxic effect, but an excess can lead to unwanted pounds. Usually comes in capsules of 100 to 150 mg. strengths.
